Weekend Sounds

July 15, 2011

I'm excited to listen to Lykke Li's new(ish) album Wounded Rhymes this weekend. I was mesmerized by her voice while listening to her live performance on World Cafe last week.

Alt Latino also had a great show on new discoveries from this year's Latin Alternative Music Conference.

A Summer Place

July 13, 2011

The latest issue of Small magazine is out and their summer feature is simply stunning. As always, the photography is exceptional. But I'm also really loving the styling on this one.

Oh Deer...

July 6, 2011

...or antelope. Or gazelle. I need one of these lovely beauties in my life. The first one really makes my heart dance.

And they've been on my mind a lot as of late given how here in my neck of the woods we continue to push them out of their natural habitat in order to build more real estate. It's really sad and upsetting to see how many are venturing out into urban areas and getting killed. Sorry to get all melodramatic with this post but it's really that bad.

Easy Breezy Summer Outfits

June 27, 2011

With the birthday celebrations behind us, I'm finally able to focus on our summer staycation, which officially kicks off this afternoon once I get the car back from the mechanic (new radiator, ugh!). Given all the toddler fun that's in order, my outfits need to keep up pace. So I pulled together some inspiration...

My Heart and Soul

June 24, 2011

I can still remember the first time Julian smiled at me. I melted. And how I longed to hear him say I love you. Now I can't hear it enough. My baby boy turns 3 today and like most parents I can't help but to feel sad about how quickly time has gone by. But I cherish every little step I've seen him take along the way. And as much as I look forward to what's ahead, I just want to take this time to be present in this moment...in the unbelievable joy this amazing little being brings to my life. Happy birthday my love.

Our birthday carousel ride tradition...at 1 and at 3 (how I miss those chubby rolls!)

Serene Sleep

June 22, 2011

Anthology welcomed summer with a post on dreamy outdoor beds. Sigh.

On a side note, I finally got around to picking up a hard copy of Anthology and I must say, it's a gorgeous publication. Feels more like a lifestyle/design book than a magazine.

Dino Love

June 21, 2011

On Sunday we kicked off a week-long celebration of all things dinosaur. Jules is officially obsessed and so it was natural for us to choose a dino theme for his birthday celebration. So we hit the Museum of Natural History for Father's Day. He had a blast. Next up is a dino celebration at school on Friday, followed by a dino-mite party on Saturday (complete with dinosaur hunt and all).

I'm having such a blast with my little guy. I can't help but to be consumed with the excitement and passion he has for life.

Flower Power

June 18, 2011

For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to go to flower school. I grew up in a garden apartment and was often in the dirt planting, pulling and playing. And while I no longer have a garden, I have some plants and I try to pick up flowers with Jules on a weekly basis. And while they're certainly pretty to look at, there's also something about arranging flowers that's so therapeutic.

Rue magazine contributor and floral artisan Kat Flower is teaching a summer workshop in New York. And if you mention Rue you get 15% off the tuition.

LA-Inspired Salads

June 9, 2011

While in LA earlier this week I had an early dinner with a friend at Lemonade in Brentwood. Aside from the place being totally cute, I was immediately drawn in by their vast selection of healthy salads. Lemonade fancies itself part lemonade stand, part grade-school cafeteria. They have an interesting sandwich selection. Their red velvet cake is incredible! And as expected, their lemonade is pretty good. I took a menu with me in the hopes that I can recreate some of their salads at home (sample menu below, full menu on their site). And they're perfect for the 100 degree weather!

If anyone has any similar recipes, please share!

Brooklyn Pesto

June 1, 2011

This Sugar Snap Peas with Minty Pea Pesto recipe looks delish! It was featured on the lovely Terrain Bulletin and is taken from one of their featured cookbooks, The New Brooklyn Cookbook: Recipes and Stories from 31 Restaurants that put Brooklyn on the Culinary Map.
