Weekend Inspiration

September 9, 2011

This block from Paloma's Nest is precisely the kind of inspiration I need to keep the 5 Simple Things momentum going. I'm also thinking it would make a great Christmas gift.

The digital version of the Design*Sponge newspaper is now available for download. I'm hoping to pick up a hard copy in Park Slope tomorrow (I'm getting a hand made silhouette of my little guy at Pink Olive...more here).

I've made Heather's Heirloom Tomato and Plum Salad three times this week. It's delicious. And the salad dressing is perfection. Tonight I added cucumbers. Jules loved it. Watch the video...it's beautiful!

As we honor and remember 9/11 this weekend read these inspirational quotes from women who were touched by the tragedy

Although I'm not moving to LA anytime soon, I can't help but to browse the listings on Take Sunset and admire the beautiful architecture...and dream a little...

I want a little bungalow in SoCal!

The Cool Casa

August 24, 2011

My self-professed design junkie friend Denise has an oh so cool blog on all things interior design called The Cool Casa. In addition to featuring cool products and design resources, Denise also shares some of her great thrift store finds, some of which are now available in her new etsy shop. Looking for something specific? Just let her know and she'll try to hunt it down for you.

Cool Weekend

July 22, 2011

Unbearable. That's all I can say about this heat. I can't breathe. It's impossible to stay cool. Staring at these beautiful caftans and tunics from Two helps. Well, not really, but they're gorgeous. And I love the story behind the brand.

We're off to Tarrytown tomorrow to catch Laurie Berkner, and were hoping to spend time checking out local shops and attractions, but considering the heatwave will continue through tomorrow, I'm not so sure we'll see anything other than the inside of the venue and a restaurant. We'll have to try to head up again in the Fall.

And Tenafly is hosting its Summer Street Festival this weekend, but again, who can stand the heat?!

Hope you stay cool. Here are some fun things to check out from around the web...

Keep cool with these easy to make summer cocktails

Oh Deer...

July 6, 2011

...or antelope. Or gazelle. I need one of these lovely beauties in my life. The first one really makes my heart dance.

And they've been on my mind a lot as of late given how here in my neck of the woods we continue to push them out of their natural habitat in order to build more real estate. It's really sad and upsetting to see how many are venturing out into urban areas and getting killed. Sorry to get all melodramatic with this post but it's really that bad.

Serene Sleep

Anthology welcomed summer with a post on dreamy outdoor beds. Sigh.

On a side note, I finally got around to picking up a hard copy of Anthology and I must say, it's a gorgeous publication. Feels more like a lifestyle/design book than a magazine.

More fringe and agate

April 1, 2011

I'm loving Refinery29's feature on jewelry designer Mimi Jung. Her space is full of gorgeous little details. And I love that her creations inhabit her home as well. I'm trying to decide which one of her lovely rope bracelets I need on my wrist like asap!

I love how all the white really makes this space looks pulled together and nicely organized. And the chandelier is lovely.

I been on the hunt for a creative way to divide my bedroom...Fringe!!

She used leftover agate pieces from her jewelry collection to create a unique tabletop. Love!

Here's a wide picture of the table. It's a vintage drum she uses as a tea table.

One of her beautiful pieces. She shares: "When I created my jewelry line, I wanted to make sure the pieces were as beautiful when displayed as objects as they are when worn."

This just made me smile because dinosaurs have officially become part of my design aesthetic thanks to Jules.

The Brook&Lyn collection. And she designed a piece for Of a Kind. Have a great weekend!

Weekend creations

March 4, 2011

And speaking of wall decor, how great are these?  Such an interesting way to display nature in the home.

This one I adore and must have asap!

I have a couple of projects I'd like to wrap up this weekend:
  • Caulk tub
  • Finish Jules' airplane mobile
  • Make a couple of pieces of jewelry/accessories
  • Start closet/wardrobe organization project

And Sunday we're off to the Montclair Art Museum for a Lego Building Workshop where families will be creating Lego models of Montclair buildings. Should be fun for my Lego obsessed little guy.

'Write' state of mind

February 15, 2011

To say it's been a tough winter is an understatement. It's been brutal! But over the last week or so we've been getting small glimpses of Spring and it's been fantastic. A great boost for the body and soul (more time outdoors, enjoyable walks, and even runs). But today we're back down to 30 degree weather. My soul is deflated, my body fatigued and my mind is, well, not present (probably because it's frozen!). Not a good combination when you have a ton of writing to get done.

There's hope for warmer temps tomorrow, but that still leaves me stuck indoors today, unable to get into the right headspace.  So I'm just daydreaming about how incredible it would be if this was my home office. Sigh.

Instead, all I've got is my mat, and that will have to do...for now.

It's Friday, I'm in love...

Weekend inspiration: My Vibe My Life

February 4, 2011

Kelly Wearstler has an incredible knack for creating design experiences that stimulate your imagination in indescribable ways. As someone who is very visual, I have a fond appreciation for her aesthetic. What draws me in the most is her use of unusual yet beautiful items in unexpected ways. I sometimes think a Kelly Wearstler design museum is in order.

So I was super excited to learn that Kelly has launched a blog. She describes it as a personal collection of photos of the things that capture her attention…and give her moments of happiness and inspiration during busy days. I’m already inspired.

Check out some of the inspiration trays she's created for projects.
