Lobster Love

August 19, 2011

Joanna's post today reminded me that there was an upside to my failed McQueen attempt 2 weeks back: an amazing lobster lunch at Luke's Lobster in the East Village. It was a happy accident because we were headed to Caracas Arepa Bar but the wait was too long. I wasn't even aware of all the lobster roll hype (in fact, I thought my comadre was referring to sushi when she asked if I wanted a lobster roll), but I kid you not, these things are DELICIOUS! I don't even think we stopped to take a breath other than to repeatedly share how delicious the rolls where.

Cool Weekend

July 22, 2011

Unbearable. That's all I can say about this heat. I can't breathe. It's impossible to stay cool. Staring at these beautiful caftans and tunics from Two helps. Well, not really, but they're gorgeous. And I love the story behind the brand.

We're off to Tarrytown tomorrow to catch Laurie Berkner, and were hoping to spend time checking out local shops and attractions, but considering the heatwave will continue through tomorrow, I'm not so sure we'll see anything other than the inside of the venue and a restaurant. We'll have to try to head up again in the Fall.

And Tenafly is hosting its Summer Street Festival this weekend, but again, who can stand the heat?!

Hope you stay cool. Here are some fun things to check out from around the web...

Because I need to get better at managing my finances.

Because it's Patti Smith...and so many people have loved this book.

Because Gwyneth is doing her thing. The images are beautiful and she has a spaghetti and zucchini recipe I want to make.

Because I appreciate a personal approach to interior design.

And because Jules is slowly becoming a finicky eater. (And to think when I first heard of this book I thought "I'll never do that!")

I'm taking Patti with me today on an overnight business trip to Jacksonville. Looking forward to some quiet time on the plane.

Weekend sewing projects

March 25, 2011

I'm embarrassed to say I've had a sewing machine in my closet for over 7 years that I've only touched once. And that was when I pulled it out of the box. And mind you, I requested it as a gift. I bought supplies and how-to books. I even took a sewing class at Make Workshop.

I think it's about time I put that bad boy to work! And not just because I want to make things for myself, but so that I can make stuff for my little cutie as well. Case in point: Oliver + S Little Things to Sew. The book features truly adorable classic accessories and toys for kids. From what I've seen so far, I want to make them all!
